With more than 50 years of experience as a licensed contractor and architect, Frank has built around 250 Pole Homes in Hawaii and still designs the homes built by Stiller Construction Inc. today. He has built Pole Homes exclusively for the past 45 years.
Frank first came to the islands in 1968 and began building condominiums. In the early 1970s an engineer friend took him to an event called The Parade of Homes, which featured a new style of home - a Pole Home. His curiosity got the best of him, as it usually does, and he built his first Pole Home in 1972 in Kula, Maui.
Since then, he has designed and built residences for every type of homeowner: those looking for luxury, first-time homeowners, growing families, downsizing empty-nesters, you name it! He has built a reputation based on integrity and craftsmanship and enjoys passing his knowledge onto the next generation. All the while, continuing to grow and challenge himself. Frank believes you’re never too old to learn something new!
Michael began working with his grandfather Frank when he was a teenager. He had convinced Frank, who was bored in his recent retirement, to get back to work doing what he loved - designing and building houses. This time they’d do it together. As Frank describes it, he was a natural. It didn’t take long before he was coming up with his own ideas and innovative solutions. He was curious and confident.
They then created their own corporation with Michael and Frank as the President and Vice President, respectively. At the age of 90, Frank decided it was time to step down from the ladder and put all his time into his beautiful hand drawn designs. Michael and his crew bring these unique designs to life.
